Orchestra Programs

Through orchestral performances, I have the great privilege of blending my talents in both storytelling and music. My repertoire ranges from recent compositions to old favorites and the classics, and I bring a unique style of animation and vitality to my tales which often accompany great orchestral presentations.

Jay performs with the RPO

The best-known narrative works I perform are Mr. Smith's Composition, Playing with Style, Peter and the Wolf, Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra, and Night on Bald Mountain.

I have also developed a series of one-hour family concert programs, embracing many of the best-known classical and popular compositions:

The Celebrated Case of the Storybook People versus the Wolf
In this delightful tale, young Peter makes a surprising appearance and tells that old story his own way! Naturally, musical accompaniment includes the popular Prokoifiev composition, along with Rimsky-Korsakov's Flight of the Bumblebee, Rossini's William Tall Overture, Gounod's Funeral March of a Marionette, and Mozart's Symphony No. 35 Finale.

A Tuneful Afternoon
Actually a middle-of-the-night soiree, this happy excursion features music from old cartoons, plenty of audience participation, and a fun-filled presentation of Dance of the Hours -- loosely designed around the music of Ponchielli -- with volunteers from the audience miming the orchestra on cleaning utensils!

Jay Stetzer is a wonder.
A master storyteller, he holds the audience in the palm of his hand. He can create an astounding variety of moods, ranging from the most subtle intimacy to the utmost hilarity...
He is a resounding success!

Merriweather's Mailbox
This marvelous Valentine's Day Special brings the audience into Merriweather's attic, full of memories and madness. A truly fascinating concert, it swirls with the music of Leroy Anderson and features a happy introduction to the instruments of the orchestra.

Merriweather's Attic
Featured as a Mother's Day Special by the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, this wonder-filled presentation includes The Kitchen Concerto, written for a baker's dozen instruments and a variety of pots, pans, and kitchen appliances -- all to the first movement of Mozart's Eine Kleine Nacht Musik.

As a skilled designer of family musical entertainment, I can tailor a program to suit your specific audience, its taste, and its expectations. I draw on my unique range of orchestral repertoire to bring an exceptional measure of talent and creativity to well-known musical selections, delighting audiences of all ages.
